AMVIC translated consumer guides

| Consumer bulletins

According to the Government of Alberta website, international migration contributed 35,932 new residents to Alberta in the first quarter of 2023. Many of these new residents may not speak English as a first language and navigating new territory can be daunting for some.

When it comes to the automotive industry in Alberta, AMVIC protects consumers from unfair practices through education, public interaction and free resources. Recently AMVIC updated three consumer guides into five different languages to help newcomers and vulnerable consumers when purchasing, servicing or repairing a vehicle.

The “Buying new”, “Buying used” and “Service and repair” consumer guides are now available as downloadable and printable documents in Punjabi, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Chinese and Ukrainian. Being an educated consumer before, during and after a vehicle transaction puts control into the hands of each consumer.

The guides include a checklist that helps protect the consumer against unfair practices, and include a bill of sale checklist, a vehicle history checklist, and a service and repair estimate checklist.

AMVIC continuously strives to protect all consumers by educating them of their rights and responsibilities within the automotive industry in Alberta. These translated consumer guides will be handed out at various tradeshows and are available at the AMVIC office.
