Don’t fall for fraud

The Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council is reminding you to be cautious when you find online deals and promotions that sound too good to be true.

Perhaps it’s a rock-bottom price. Maybe it’s a rare model. A number of scam artists target shoppers by advertising popular vehicles at prices way below market value. They prey on excited shoppers who do not want to take a chance and miss out on a great “deal”.

Some fraudsters are so sophisticated in their scamming operations that they have elaborate websites with inventory photos and customer reviews. Even cautious consumers can be convinced they are legitimate.

Unfortunately, those deals may not exist or may be misleading. Fraudsters can be untraceable once your money is sent.

AMVIC recommends that you choose products and services sold by AMVIC-licensed businesses. In Alberta all automotive businesses, including RV sales and service, must be licensed by AMVIC and all their salespeople must be AMVIC-registered—it’s the law. Go to amvic.org to search the database.
